Journal Entry: Sat Apr 26, 2008, 6:54 PM

I was gonna upload something this weekend but I'm dumb and forgot the files at the office (where I do all my work) Ah well it will have to wait.

Since I got Netflix I've actually seen more movies then before I cancelled all my HBO/Cinemax/Showtime. Come journey with me through the last gems I've found.

Sweeney Todd – I had actually seen this production on Broadway. It was ok there, though it did have wonderful set design (it was a tiny stage where they moved the same set around for all the scenes, ie, a ladder became a seat became a shelf). But when I saw the movie I remembered all the songs and how great they were. I want to see it again!

Enchanted – I'm a sucker for cute romantic movies. This one was ok. Amy Adams is a really cute actress to watch, but I didn't enjoy the singing at all. In a musical like above, the music fits in seamlessly like they're talking, but here when they sing people knew it was weird and it is. Plus they were boring.

Juno – It was pretty good. It's a great script and the characters are interesting. I think the problem though is that it was so hyped I had high expectations for it. Everyone in the movie was just a little too witty. Like EVERYONE. And too understanding and complaint. I kept thinking I want to live in that town o.O

Eagle vs Shark – Alot of people liken this movie with Napoleon Dynamite. The loser hero character (plus sad surroundings) is certainly reminiscent of ND, but that's about it. ND was made by MTV and it's made for a younger audience. Eagle vs Shark is slightly more mature and subtle in it's comedy. I really enjoyed it.

19th century period movies – I've watched a lot!! Sense and Sensibility, Pride and Predjudice, Vanity Fair. I love this period. The clothes and properness and speech.

If anyone has seen good movies lately they can recommend to me that would be awesome. Or even warn me which to skip =P

I've heard that you shouldn't watch "There will be Blood" and "Before the Devil knows your Dead" back to back... a coworker told me that by the end of it all, it's overbearingly depressing. Other then that, I haven't really watched anything recently. I do enjoy Pride & Prejudice too though. Maybe you should try "The Importance of being Earnest", it's pretty funny ^_^

the songs in sweeney todd were great, and the voices in the movie were not bad at all. the ending was pretty satisfying, too [imo]. juno was not bad either, and yes there was a lot of wit xD.

the most recent movie i've seen was sweeney todd. .___. i guess i'm not much help.

I will look for Earnest. I can't remember if I've ever seen it or I've seen/read the plays in English class

i thought Juno was brilliant. a lot better than i thought it would be and i was glad that there was no sappy ending where she kept it or something. definitley one of my absolute favourites! :D

Oh, you've reminded me that I STILL haven't seen Sweeney Todd yet. Must rent it very soon.

I recently saw a couple movies that I rather liked. I think they're still in theaters.
One is "Jack and Jill Vs the World". Sort of "Sweet November"-ish in its plot. I found it to be very sweet and fun. [link] <-- trailer

"Then She Found Me" is the other I just saw and really loved too. Roma tic comedy that isn't all fluff (although, I do LOVE those -- this was just a nice change on the genre). [link] <- trailer
