movies

Journal Entry: Sat Apr 26, 2008, 6:54 PM

I was gonna upload something this weekend but I'm dumb and forgot the files at the office (where I do all my work) Ah well it will have to wait.

Since I got Netflix I've actually seen more movies then before I cancelled all my HBO/Cinemax/Showtime. Come journey with me through the last gems I've found.

Sweeney Todd – I had actually seen this production on Broadway. It was ok there, though it did have wonderful set design (it was a tiny stage where they moved the same set around for all the scenes, ie, a ladder became a seat became a shelf). But when I saw the movie I remembered all the songs and how great they were. I want to see it again!

Enchanted – I'm a sucker for cute romantic movies. This one was ok. Amy Adams is a really cute actress to watch, but I didn't enjoy the singing at all. In a musical like above, the music fits in seamlessly like they're talking, but here when they sing people knew it was weird and it is. Plus they were boring.

Juno – It was pretty good. It's a great script and the characters are interesting. I think the problem though is that it was so hyped I had high expectations for it. Everyone in the movie was just a little too witty. Like EVERYONE. And too understanding and complaint. I kept thinking I want to live in that town o.O

Eagle vs Shark – Alot of people liken this movie with Napoleon Dynamite. The loser hero character (plus sad surroundings) is certainly reminiscent of ND, but that's about it. ND was made by MTV and it's made for a younger audience. Eagle vs Shark is slightly more mature and subtle in it's comedy. I really enjoyed it.

19th century period movies – I've watched a lot!! Sense and Sensibility, Pride and Predjudice, Vanity Fair. I love this period. The clothes and properness and speech.

If anyone has seen good movies lately they can recommend to me that would be awesome. Or even warn me which to skip =P

musical haircut hangings

Journal Entry: Mon Apr 21, 2008, 12:29 AM

Things I learned/discovered/found this week, weekly super awesome edition:
  • Every few years I get a huge urge to get myself a new haircut! Which has never once turned out to be a good idea. But yes, OMG, I really wish I had the courage to get bangs! haha @_@. I've wanted them for so long. I especially love those stylish super short bangs. I'm just worried my hair texture won't take well to it, or that my fat face will look fatter with it XD. I have noticed so many women these days have the hair parted on the sides-half bangs. I'd taken to staring at people on subways or following them closer when one zooms by. Well I half committed to the hairstyle a few days ago. I cut a good 8-10 inches, got it SUPER layered, parted to the side and I have the semi-half bangs! (swept to the side about eye length) I think it came out pretty good! Better than just the non-existent style it was before. Maybe one day I'll have courage to go all the way

  • FINALLY!! A way to send emails to your grandparents via Presto *wink*

  • I discovered the singer Jonathan Coulton this weekend. His music is so much fun. Richard loves it too, especially the zombie song since he's a zombie-lover freak. I like Skullcrusher Mountain best (I made this half pony, half monkey monster to please you. But I get the feeling that you don't like it... What's with all the screaming? You like monkeys. You like ponies. Maybe you don't like monsters so much? Maybe I used too many monkeys? Isn't it enough to know that I ruined a pony making a gift for you?....)

  • Our kitchen window faces our complex's courtyard. One afternoon I looked outside while waiting for my mashed potatoes to warm (Thank you Boston Market frozen foods + Key Foods for a 1/2 off sale. I LOVE you both <3) and I saw this poor hanged fellow.

(OMG!!... a lot of pigeons roost there much to my cat's delight)

I'll need to scale the roofs to save him! (Yes he's a boy, I know)

  • Remember: It's so much better for your piece of mind and health to be a positive person than to dwell on the negative energies of life and others.

More things I learn

Journal Entry: Sun Apr 6, 2008, 9:56 PM

And now, more things I learned, found and amused me this week:

  • It looks like it FINALLY is turning into spring. We had a mild weekend. I do prefer the cold to the heat, but did it seem that winter lasted forever this year?

  • Why the heck is the icecream truck circulating our block to peddle it's wares at 9PM at night! @_@ Let's even forget that it's still 50° at night and that I'm not going to run out in my coat and scarf to buy a rocket pop... but doesn't it seem like the perfect front to a pedophelia ring?

  • Speaking of pedo-freaks. I was watching a documentary about sex/porn on the internet. They were showing how FBI agents pose as underage girls in chatrooms to lure perps into a face-face meeting. That is a nice job keeping our young girls safer on the internet... but it was still amusing to see a 40 year old man with 8 chat windows open talking to 8 guys all at once with things like "lol" "o i c" and "dat is kewl"

  • Just WTF!!! More weird stuff from Japan.

Things I learn

Journal Entry: Mon Mar 24, 2008, 9:35 PM

Sorry, I haven't found time to work on alot of personal art lately. I used to do it while at work because it's so slow there at times, but it's finally picked up again. I hardly have time to visit my daily sites!! T_T I need to better balance my work and commissions and 'fun stuff'.

Things I discovered within the past 2 weeks:
  • Royksopp's Remind Me video is very nice
  • Netflix Instant Watch is awesome for viewing at work or working from home.
  • Waking up before 12pm is horrible ~_~
  • However waking up early gives one a chance to eat at the chain Pret (a manger). They have the yummiest freshest organic food. I had a 'no bread sandwich' with mixed greens, mozarella, tomatoes, olives, pine nuts and half an avocado (which I ate already) and a crusty bread sandwich with brie and tomatoes! So yumm.

  • Google Image Labeler is a good game to play that doesn't look like a game when the boss walks by
  • The color changing ravager is an awesome pet. I love him <3

If you are a pixel artist or doller I hope you are watching ^ShoneGold (Ann), our hardworking pixel/doll Gallery Director. There are multiple reasons to do so, but most importantly every few months she runs pixel/doll contests were top prizes are a nice lump of dA cash (which you can use on wear, art, subscriptions..etc) The current contest is for Chinese New Year – Rat. It's due on March 18, so there is still time to make something fab. I was so mad I didn't enter her Christmas competition, so I'm going to be working really hard this week on my entry. I'm such a bad procrastinator ~_~

I love this dafont site. It's where I download all my fonts I use in my artwork. And they're all free~! There are a ton of cartoony and cutesy ones, and a ton of interesting ding fonts. Just be aware of your usage and check out the read-me files. All the fonts are free to download and use, but alot aren't for commercial use.

Here are some amazing artists who have way too few pageviews + faves. Check them out, I love their artwork so n__n
